Since its launch on Christmas Day 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has fundamentally changed our understanding of the universe. Its infrared cameras can peer through cosmic dust to observe galaxies that formed in the earliest epochs of the cosmos.

Seeing the Unseen

JWST's first deep field image revealed thousands of galaxies in a patch of sky no larger than a grain of sand held at arm's length. Some of these galaxies existed just 300 million years after the Big Bang, challenging existing models of galaxy formation.

Exoplanet Atmospheres

The telescope has also made groundbreaking observations of exoplanet atmospheres, detecting water, carbon dioxide, and other molecules that could indicate conditions suitable for life.
